Research
The Academy of Ethicality develops resources to support ethical, reflexive and responsible research across disciplines and professional contexts. These resources are designed for researchers, practitioner-scholars and others engaged in the development, interpretation and communication of knowledge.
The Ethical-Reflexive Engagement Model for practitioners

The Ethical-Reflexive Engagement Model builds upon Courageous Becoming: Cultivating Ethicality (Smith, 2025), extending its developmental, relational and contextual understanding of ethicality into a reflexive model for engaging ethical complexity, action, responsibility, integration and learning.
Smith, W.-A. (2025). Courageous Becoming: Cultivating Ethicality. Journal of Coaching Ethics, 2(5), 1–25. https://doi.org/10.62882/47adx108
The Ethical-Reflexive Engagement Model offers a practitioner-oriented framework for engaging ethically with the complexity of lived experience. Grounded in Wendy-Ann Smith’s published work on Courageous Becoming, published in the Journal of Coaching Ethics, the model places reflexive ethicality at its centre and invites ongoing engagement with what we notice, question, choose, enact, take responsibility for, integrate and learn through experience.
More aware. More responsible. More human.
Ethical-Reflexive Inquiry Model for Researchers

The Ethical-Reflexive Inquiry Model for Researchers accompanies the Academy of Ethicality’s Ethics Throughout the Research Process: A Good Questions Guide. It offers researchers a recursive way of attending to the ethical questions, choices, relationships, responsibilities and learning that can arise throughout inquiry, from the earliest framing of research through to its continuing consequences.
